Six Sigma Green Belt

Six sigma green belt functions under the black belt, gathering data for black belt projects. Green belt officials also assist in the analysis of projects. The main duty of the green belt is to supervise that the six sigma methods are practiced properly. Another objective is to bring up small developments inside their area of management. Along with these objectives, they choose, strategize and carry out the DMAIC i.e. Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control code while executing a project. Furthermore it is the green belts’ responsibility to select the correct tools of management and the apt six sigma tools to ensure profit and success of the product.

Among all the six sigma sections, the black belts have the most significant job, but green belts bear the responsibility to support the black belt projects. Although green belts have enormous work capacity and responsibilities, they have not been given enough training to manage the whole project alone. They work under or with the guidance of black belts.

Green belt analyzes and applies any adjustments or modification that is needed in a project, if any mistakes are discovered. They can also be considered as the department that covers complaints associated with the products. One of their aims is to find new ways to improve upon the quality of the products produced. They have a set pattern of solving any problem that is by following the six sigma principles.

It is important for the green belts to share a close working relationship with the black belts as their work is co-related. Although black belts are the ones that actually lead the project, green belts are an essential link in getting the project completed successfully and profitably. This goes to say that both the belts are equally important and have to work together systematically to achieve the best possible product.

The six sigma green belt training program is a less complicated course than the black belt program. They have lesser training hours than the black belts. The training involves mainly 5 main factors. Firstly, a full summary of what six sigma encompasses, secondly the principles of DMAIC, thirdly the monetary profits of six sigma, fourthly what six sigma is to an organization that it works with and fifthly the tools and theories followed by six sigma. To complete a green belt program and achieve the certificate, green belts have to write an exam and also submit a completed project. The exam consists of a 100 multiple choice questions with 4 hour time limit. The papers are provided only in English. The examinations are of the open book kind, and all applicants have to bring their own study materials for reference.

To sum up, a six sigma green belt have the second significant job in an organization. They function under the leadership of the black belts to analyze and collect data for the project. They do not actually run a project, but support the people who run the project. Green belts have an excellent know-how about the six sigma principles and the knowledge of how to use them in context.
